The Golf Putz was a commission piece for the Tustin Police Department’s Golf Tournament. This was my first attempt at a true metal sculpture. I wanted to take an object or in this case, objects and completely morph their shape into something completely different.
Nuts and bolts were used to start. They were welded together and then I filled in all of the cracks to form the initial shape. Then…lots of hours of grinding and sanding. Sometimes more welding and then back to grinding and sanding again. Lastly his attitude was taken from the way I play golf but relayed into an older gentleman of course.
