Paddle Hard No. 3 encompasses the essence of a “California” beach lifestyle. Surfing in California is a blessing that most in the world might never experience. I wanted to capture that in Paddle hard 3. A total California mosaic on a total California icon. It is a piece that someone can enjoy over and over again, finding new inspiration with each viewing. The unseen structure was built from recycled scrap metal made into close dimensions of a “California Gun” surfboard. It was then covered with 105 retired California license plates. Each plate piece was hand cut and meticulously assembled in a puzzle like fashion. The pieces were securely riveted into place with detailed precision. The board is almost entirely made from recycled materials with the exception of some steel tubing in the fame and the rivets. The base is also a thick piece of abused scrap metal that was cut to shape and form the anchor of which the whole piece stands on.
